Dr Frederick Toke President
The story of LEE Community College (LCC) is more than a tale of success and growth. It is a story of how a business can be conducted with passion, integrity and values.
In 1999, Counsellors' Academy (its former name) rented a small hotel function room to conduct its first counselling psychology class for a group of 15 enthusiastic students. Through word of mouth and occasional small advertisements, the enrolment and overwhelming response prompted us to rent 2 small units of office space at Palmer House (at the end of Shenton Way) in 2001. Within 3 months, we expanded to 4 units and less than a year later, we moved to a 6,000 square feet premises within the same building.
One thing sets up apart: Lee Community College upholds the principle of developing enthusiastically satisfied students by providing Life Enriching Experiences throughout the learning journey of our adult participants. A team of highly qualified lecturers who are also practicing professionals inject realism and fun to the learning process. We treat our employees as our family members for we know that our success depends on the people who work for us and that LCC cannot flourish and win students' hearts without the passion of these precious and loyal employees.
To date, we have trained over 2000 students in Singapore for our counselling courses which are namely: Introduction to Counselling Psychology, Diploma in Psychology (Emphasis in Counselling), Diploma in Applied Gerontology (Counselling) & Diploma In Family Life Education.
In December 2004, we moved to our present premises at MND Complex, which is conveniently located right in the heart of the city at Maxwell Road, next to Tanjong Pagar MRT and Amoy Street Food Centre. The Ministry of Education granted us college status. LCC occupies 4 storeys of MND Complex with a total floor area of approximately 11,000 square feet and is fully equipped with 14 air-conditioned classrooms of various sizes, a library, 2 counselling clinics, 3 counselling laboratories with 1-way mirror to facilitate observational learning, and, a lecture theatre with a seating capacity of 130 people.
Some renowned organisations that sent their staff to receive training from our college include: National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Ministry of Education, Ministry of National Development, Urban Redevelopment of Authority, National Neuroscience Institute, Institute of Technical Education, Singapore Eye Centre, National University Hospital, Singapore Prison, MINDEF, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, Health Promotion Board, National Health Group Polyclinics, Housing & Development Board, Maritime Port Authority of Singapore, CIAS Police, Yayasan Mendaki, The Methodist Church in Singapore, Catholic Welfare Services, Siam Bank, OCBC, Hongkong & Shanghai Bank, Dresdner Bank, Hong Leong Finance, Shimizu Corporation, etc.
Our graduates have been gainfully employed in both the private and government sectors. For the aspiring students, they have also been granted admission for undergraduate and postgraduate studies with several American & Australian universities.
We strive to continue to inspire our students in becoming life long learners by providing continuing education to help them keep abreast of current counselling techniques and issues that are prevalent in this ever changing world.
"Contributing positively to our communities" is an important guiding principle of the Lee Community College mission statement. Every graduand is challenged to make a positive impact on the community in which he/she lives and works, and to make a difference in people's lives. Being cited by Edupoll in providing the BEST in Counselling/Psychology Education in 2005 attested to our commitment in fulfilling this mission.
We are committed to provide a high standard of service to our students by promoting a conducive learning environment through a student-teacher ratio of 40 to 1. We have developed transparent redress policies that were disseminated to our students through our student handout, website, etc. so that matters concerning their welfare do not distract their full concentration on their studies.
All information pertaining to courses, tuition, non-tuition fees and other charges are contained in the student's handbook, course leaflet and other literature.
Our teachers and lecturers are selected based on their subject expertise, experience and dedication.
We spare no efforts to provide what is best for our students in their aspirations to achieve their dreams and ambitions.
