The Diploma in Applied Gerontology (Counseling) program is designed to equip students with the ability to provide quality care for the elderly, and dealing with conflicts and how to resolve them. Students gained a broad understanding of the social, medical and economic aspects of ageing and learn practical skills and knowledge in working with older persons (see Testimonies). Substantial areas covered include demographic profile and trends, theoretical and developmental perspectives in ageing, social issues and national policies, working with the elderly and their families, intergenerational relationships, support services and current trends.

Those directly engaged in social service delivery for older persons in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors will find this diploma program relevant and gives them additional competence in the field. The program is also suited for those who want an exposure to the field of ageing and wish to work with older persons. It is especially beneficial for people who wish to prepare themselves for later years or who are primary care-givers.

* This diploma may not qualify anyone to set up a private counseling practice. Employment is solely at the discretion of the employer.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE back to top
This is a 10-month part time program with once-a-week lectures from 7pm to 10pm, totaling 120 contact hours. Extra field work will be required as and when the need arises.
TEACHING APPROACH back to top
Members of the teaching staff are drawn from experienced and qualified practitioners. The course work includes lectures, case studies, discussions and written assignments. You are also required to do a large part of your study in your own time.

ASSESSMENT METHODS back to top
At the end of each module, students will either sit for an examination or write an essay as required by the respective lecturers. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded the Diploma in Applied Gerontology (Counseling) by LEE Community College.
ADMISSION CRITERIA back to top
Applicants should possess at least 3 'O' level credits, including English or an equivalent recognized qualification. In lieu of the academic qualifications, mature applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Duly-completed application form
  • Certified true copies of highest education certificates and transcripts
  • Photocopy of NRIC or passport
  • 2 passport-sized photographs
  • Registration Fee (non-refundable)

Registration Fee(non-refundable) S$100 ($107 inclusive of 7% GST)
Course Fee S$2,800 ($2,996^ inclusive of 7% GST)

Fees include the prevailing 7% GST but do not cover textbooks. LEE Community College reserves the right to change the structure, content and fees of the program from time to time, before and after a student has registered. Refund policy is stated on the application form.

Monthly Installment $307.73

Terms and Conditions:
 
  1. The monthly installment rate of $307.73 is calculated based on the loan amount of $2.996 on a 10-month tenure.
  2. Above calculations are for illustration purpose only. The monthly installment amounts shown should not be taken as the actual amounts payable. Applicants will have to consult the bank for exact installment amount based on their loan amount and tenure.
  3. Promotional rates apply for participating institutions only.
  4. The effective interest rate is 5.88% p.a. Interest is calculated on a reducing monthly rest basis.
  5. This education loan is open to part-time local students.
  6. Both Borrower and Guarantor must have a minimum income of at least S$12,000 per annum.
  7. The loan amount granted is at the sole discretion of the bank. LEE Community College does not guarantee and is not responsible for the granting of the loan and the loan amount granted by the bank. In principle, it has been set by the bank at 6 times your monthly income or up to S$50,000, whichever is lower
  8. LEE Community College will not accept Progressive Disbursement Plan.
